PROJECTS Bridges  ALSF 16R

Retained by the FAA, BPA designed the ALSF (Approach Lighting System with Sequenced Flashing Lights) bridge project that supports the runway landing lights to serve the new runway 16R at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The total length of the system is about 730 m (2,400 ft), in four 92 m (300 ft) long bridge segments that are required to span over Interstate 528 and environmentally sensitive wetlands north of the airport.

Due to essential nature of Interstate 528 unique erection procedures were developed to allow only one night of highway closure.
