Key Staff


President / Managing Principal

Paul Tomei is president of Bogdonov Pao Associates. Paul brings a unique background in structural engineering design and construction, including tilt-up, wood frame, structural steel, high-rise and construction engineering. With considerable experience ranging from carpentry to operations superintendent, Paul prides himself on identifying practical, cost effective and creative solutions aimed at solving engineering and construction problems. His broad experience allows him to relate to the entire project team to address specific needs, requirements and limitations while remaining focused on accomplishing a common goal.

Paul first obtained a Certificate of Carpentry Specialization in 1986 from the Pacific Vocational Institute followed by a Dipl. T. in Civil & Structural Engineering Technology in 1989 from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  Paul is committed to continuing professional development and later continued his education at BCIT in the Bachelor of Technology Management Program.  He is registered with the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC, as an Applied Science Technologist, and provides volunteer services as a Board of Examiner Reviewer.  He is also a member of both the Accreditation Board and the Practice Review Board. In addition, Paul served on the joint Limited License Task Force for the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of BC, providing representation as a Non-Registered Engineering Supervisor. 

As Manager of Construction Engineering Services, Paul specializes in contractor/construction services, design/build management; structural design and inspections.



Manager, Structural Engineering

With almost a decade of structural design experience with buildings across Canada, Bogdonov Pao Associates was pleased to welcome Everett in 2020 as the new Manager of Structural Engineering at Bogdonov Pao Associates In his new role, Everett is part of the senior management team and is responsible for identifying primary structural concept, overseeing the detailed design development process, and guiding and mentoring young engineers.

Everett has direct experience in the structural design of over 50 projects, including a 6 year contribution on Phase 1 of the Brentwood mall redevelopment. In addition, Everett has 8 years of experience working successfully with multi-disciplinary consultant teams, stakeholder groups, and contractors. Everett has a proven ability to learn and has demonstrated competency in all project types, including new construction, renovations, demolitions, tenant improvements, building assessments, seismic upgrades, and asset management. He is familiar with many building types and the associated construction methodologies, including commercial, industrial, residential, high rise, tilt-up, and wood frame.

In addition to building design, Everett is experienced with specialty engineering, including: public art installations, temporary structures, movie studio sound stage and prop designs, scaffolding, landscape structures, trellis’, water features, feature walls, and special effect and stunt performer rigging.


GARRY R. KIRKHAM   P.Eng., Struct.Eng.

Senior Structural Engineer

Garry Kirkham is a senior engineer with Bogdonov Pao Associates   In 1979, he obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia. Since then, he has continued to supplement his degree with further education at BCIT and UBC, including the Certified Professional Program. Throughout his career, Garry has designed a wide variety of structures including large concrete high-rise buildings such as the Bentall IV and CIBC Bank Tower.

Garry is a recognized expert in structural steel design, having spent five years acting as the chief structural engineer with a leading structural steel fabricator. The structural steel fabrication industry continues to seek his consultation on matters relating to steel joist design. Since joining Bogdonov Pao Associates in 1994, Garry has been responsible for a variety of design projects, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, and wood structures.

Additionally, Garry is highly capable in software development, having produced much of BPA Group's in-house software for structural steel and concrete design. This software sets the firm apart in designing structures that are practical, constructible, and cost efficient. Garry is also the author of software systems used by leading manufacturers in Vancouver. The open web steel joist software he developed has automated structural design and drafting facilities.



BIM Manager, Structural Engineering

Trevor Wilson has been an employee with Bogdonov Pao Associates since 1995 in the design industry; he has gained extensive experience in construction concepts and building materials. Trevor has worked as a project designer, and as an assitant project manager co-ordinating multi-discipline design teams. This diverse design/ project co-ordination experience makes him as asset in keeping projects on schedule, and in budget.

Trevor has worked as the BIM manager for several large scale projects for clients including the Federal Aviation Administration. On these projects, Trevor demonstrated his attention to the design setails, ensuring projects were delievered in a coordinated and appropriately detailed manner, eliminating costly changes during the construction phase.

Additionally, Trevor has extensive experience in the development of AutoCAD and Revit programs. This software experience ensures that projects are delivered in a manner that is cross-compatible and formatted to the client's drawing standards and conventions. Trevor has previously instructed training to the Federal Aviation Administration in the use of BIM through in person group courses.



Drafing and Systems Manager, Structural Engineering

Kevin Da Silva is a graduate of the BCIT Building Technology program with a professional background in construction. Kevin has a diverse perspective of project management. Kevin is also the drafting and system manager, making him responsible for the development of drafting protocol and technical system supervision.

Managing the drafting department requires coordination of design and drafting efforts, which means Kevin must work to understand the needs of design engineers and drafting personnel. This understanding, coupled with his knowledge of the construction industry, helps to develop a drafting environment that is naturally conducive to high productivity.

Kevin is a BIM Manager with extensive knowlege and experience in the creation of structural Building information models with multiple teams. His excellent communication skills serve him during the project coordination, as well as his thorough knowledge of engineering and sound judgment.
